China's Xi offers Africa US$51 billion in fresh funding

Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 5, 2024, pledged US$51 billion in fresh financing to Africa, saying China would deepen industrial, agricultural, infrastructure, trade and investment cooperation with the resource-rich continent. In his speech at the opening ceremony of the 9th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit, Xi promised delegates from more than 50 African nations that China is willing to take the initiative to unilaterally open markets to Africa.
