Market blaze in China’s Hebei province kills 8 people, injures more than a dozen others

A fire at a vegetable market in northern China has killed eight people and wounded 15, state media said on January 4, 2024. Authorities are investigating the cause of the early morning fire in Zhangjiakou, a city in Hebei province. It was put out more than an hour later. Videos posted on social media showed the blaze burning inside the covered market and smoke hanging over the city.
