Parents nervous as children sit the gaokao, China’s college entrance exam

China’s national university entrance exam, also known as the gaokao, began on Sunday. A total of 12.9 million students have registered for this year’s exam, which lasts two to three days, depending on the province or subjects the students take. Many parents waited outside the exam venues to cheer for their children and wish them luck.
