At least 28 killed in Chinese shoe factory fire in southern city of Quanzhou

A fire at a shoe factory in eastern China has killed at least 28 people, according to state media. Authorities say more than 500 firefighters and 35 fire engines were deployed to the scene on Thursday. President Xi Jinping ordered an all-out effort to rescue and treat the victims, as well as an investigation. According to state media, police have detained the company’s owner and other suspects in connection with the case.
