Teen in China manages to get high gaokao score, despite series of family tragedies
After an outpouring of support from across the country, 18-year-old Zeng Zixuan asked officials to redirect donations to other students in need.
An 18-year-old girl in China’s Hubei province has been overwhelmed with public support after she found success with national university entrance exams despite successive family tragedies. Zeng Zixuan had been living alone and in a spiral of depression after the recent deaths of her father and grandmother. With support from village leaders and her teachers, Zeng still managed to get a high enough gaokao score to earn a place studying physics. After Zeng’s story went viral online, donors offered to help her pay for university. The response was so overwhelming that Zeng asked local officials to stop accepting donations on her behalf and to redirect it to other students in need.
