In an effort to engage pandemic-grounded customers, Singapore Airlines has opened a restaurant in one of its A380 long-haul aircraft, serving meals on board even though it never leaves the tarmac. Restrictions to fight the spread of Covid-19 has caused a global downturn in air travel, placing many airlines under intense financial pressure. Singapore’s flag carrier posted a net loss of over US$1 billion in the first quarter of 2020 after a 99.5 per cent plunge in passenger traffic. Facing the largest quarterly loss in its near 50-year-long history, Singapore Airlines hopes to keep future passengers dreaming about better days ahead with the limited weekend dining experiences.
