Indonesia has emerged as a major epicentre of the Covid-19 pandemic since early July 2021, when the highly contagious Delta variant began to sweep across the Southeast Asian country. On July 27, health authorities reported more than 2,000 deaths, a single-day record for the country where 88,659 have died from the illness.
