Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump held a closed-door meeting on the sidelines of the Apec summit on October 30, 2025. The meeting in the South Korean city of Busan was the first between the two leaders since Trump’s return to the White House in January. The leaders met amid heightened bilateral tensions, particularly over trade. Following the talks, Trump claimed to have reached a deal with Xi, notably on rare earth exports and control of fentanyl.
