China’s harsh Covid restrictions leave thousands of migrant workers in limbo
Several Chinese cities have been locked down after the nation’s biggest Covid-19 outbreak started on March 2022. Operations at factories have been suspended and transport in many regions has been halted, leaving thousands of migrant workers jobless. The Post visited a job market in the eastern suburbs of Beijing, where more than 1,000 migrant workers go every day to look for odd jobs in construction. But the harsh Covid-19 restrictions have left many construction sites closed in the capital. More than two-thirds of the migrant workers in this market have been unable to find employment for more than a month.
