The European Commission has announced additional tariffs on imported Chinese electric vehicles, with new duties ranging from 17 to 38 per cent. The tariff hike was announced on June 12, 2024, following a seven-month probe into subsidies in China’s EV sector. The increase will go into effect on July 4, but the investigation is expected to continue through November. Beijing voiced strong dissatisfaction with the European plan, calling it “typical protectionism”.
