Heavy rain, severe flooding and landslides in Vietnam have killed at least 90 people in the past week, authorities said on November 23, 2025. Relentless rain has lashed south-central Vietnam since late October. Popular holiday destinations have been hit by several rounds of flooding and economic losses have been estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars. In the first 10 months of the year, natural disasters have left 279 people dead or missing in Vietnam and caused more than US$2 billion in damage, according to the national statistics office. In Malaysia, more than 11,000 people in seven states have also been affected by torrential downpours. Scientists have identified a pattern of human-driven climate change that has been making extreme weather more frequent and destructive.
