Wartime mine with more than 200kg of explosives detonated at sea off Hong Kong’s Cape D’Aguilar
A WWII-era naval mine was detonated in Hong Kong waters on September 9, 2022. The British-made wartime ordinance was filled with more than 220kg (485lbs) of high explosives. Divers from the elite police squad known as the Flying Tigers, along with bomb-disposal officers, were deployed to destroy the naval mine at around midday. It was the first time a fully-intact British-made mine had been found off Hong Kong Island in three decades.
