China sacks defence minister Li Shangfu with no explanation after nearly two-month absence

China has officially dismissed defence minister Li Shangfu without a public explanation and after he had disappeared from public view for nearly two months. State broadcaster CCTV also said on October 24, 2023, that former foreign minister Qin Gang had been sacked. Li and Qin were two of only five state councillors in the country.
