China’s three years of strict pandemic controls have seriously hurt businesses across the country, leaving thousands of migrant workers unemployed or stuck at home. China began dropping its pandemic-control measures in early December 2022, but the economic recovery has been slow since the country’s reopening, and the job market remains bleak for migrant workers.
