Where do drivers stand in Hong Kong’s Uber vs taxi battle?

A long-simmering dispute between Hong Kong’s traditional taxi industry and the Uber ride-hailing service flared up in May 2024 when a group of “undercover” cabbies tried to report Uber drivers to police for carrying passengers without licences. Uber has been operating in Hong Kong since 2014, but its legal status has long been in question, and taxi industry representatives have regularly called for crackdowns. The Post set out to compare the services and speak with their drivers to understand how they feel about the controversy.
