Hongkongers flock to birdcall imitation contest to raise conservation awareness
Top 20 finalists impressed with their birdcalls that had uncanny resemblance to real birds
A recent birdcall imitation contest held in Hong Kong drew 90 submissions, with only 20 being invited to take part in the finals. Contestants wowed the crowd with calls that bore uncanny resemblances to real birds. Some hopefuls even dressed in bird costumes. Organisers said they hope that, aside from being fun, the competition can help spread an important message about conservation and the threat that urban development poses to the more than 580 species of birds that call Hong Kong home.
