China’s Alibaba releases new AI model, said to outperform competitors Deepseek and OpenAI’s GPT-4o

Chinese tech giant Alibaba released an upgraded version of its artificial intelligence (AI) model Qwen 2.5 Max on January 29, 2025. Alibaba said its new large language model (LLM) "comprehensively outperformed” its Chinese competitor’s Deepseek model in certain benchmark tests. Qwen 2.5 Max also reportedly outmatched Open AI and Meta’s LLMs. Alibaba owns the South China Morning Post.
