South Africa riots death toll hits 72 as ex-president Jacob Zuma starts jail term

Riots in South Africa, triggered by the jailing of former president Jacob Zuma, have left 72 people dead as of July 13, 2021. In the town of Soweto in Gauteng province, 10 people died in a stampede during a store looting.
