Canada cracks down on anti-vax trucker protests, seize fuel and ban honking

Justin CF Chan

Truckers opposed to Canada’s vaccination requirements have gridlocked the nation’s capital of Ottawa for 11 days, in what started as a protest against vaccine mandates for cross-border drivers on January 28, 2022. The so-called “freedom convoy” consisting of trucks and other vehicles that have been moved into the city has since turned into a larger movement against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s public health measures against Covid-19. Police in the capital have seized thousands of litres of fuel in a bid to end the protests, and a judge granted an interim injunction against the protesters’ honking of deafening horns that has irked residents.
