Katalin Kariko and Drew Weissman were awarded the Nobel Medicine Prize on October 2, 2023, for their groundbreaking work on messenger RNA (mRNA) technology, which paved the way for the development of Covid-19 vaccines. The Nobel Prize jury said that Kariko, 68, and Weissman, 64, contributed to the unprecedented rate of vaccine development during one of the greatest threats to human health in modern times.
