Anti-racism protests sweep UK after far-right riots against immigration

Thousands of police and anti-racism protesters gathered across Britain on August 7, 2024, after rioting far-right groups caused more than a week of violent racist attacks targeting Muslims and migrants. The riots came after a wave of disinformation circulated online, falsely blaming the murders of three girls on an Islamist migrant. More than 20 governments, including those in Hong Kong, Thailand, the Philippines, Bangladesh and parts of Japan, have issued travel advisories to the UK.
