The deadly mid-air collision between an American Airlines jet and a US Army helicopter near Washington’s Reagan Airport on January 29, 2025, killed all 67 people aboard the two aircraft. Emergency workers worked through the night to retrieve bodies from the wreckage after their rescue mission shifted to a recovery operation. The crash was the deadliest US commercial aviation disaster in more than 16 years. US President Donald Trump said that federal agencies have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash, while insisting that it was his “common sense” opinion that diversity policies pursued by previous administrations were partly to blame.
