Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva opened the Cop30 climate summit on November 6, 2025, with a call for leaders to act on climate finance, capacity building and technology transfer. The meeting comes amid the notable absence of the United States. In October, President Donald Trump, who ordered the US to withdraw from the Paris Agreement in January, declined Lula’s invitation to attend the conference.
