A man detained as a “person of interest” in a deadly mass shooting at Brown University has been released from police custody, Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said on December 14, 2025. Officials said the investigation was moving in a “different direction” and was progressing quickly, with evidence being collected by multiple agencies. Two students were killed in the latest gun attack in the United States and left nine others injured.
