Newsom accuses Trump of suppressing dissent

California Governor Gavin Newsom said on January 23, 2026, he was not surprised the Trump administration blocked his appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland the previous day. Newsom said the move was another example of US President Donald Trump trying to stifle dissent. The Democratic governor is a harsh critic of the Republican president.
