Cambodia unveils statue honouring landmine-sniffing rat hero Magawa

Cambodia unveiled a stone statue of Magawa, the world’s most decorated landmine-detection rat on April 3, 2026. Trained by APOPO, a charity that trains rats and dogs to detect landmines, Magawa cleared over 141,000 square metres of land before his death in 2022. The monument serves as a tribute to his bravery and a reminder of the ongoing mission to clear landmines across Cambodia.
