‘We are going to keep at it’: Venezuela quake victim vows to keep digging for family

Few survivors are being pulled from the rubble in Venezuela, one week after back-to-back earthquakes levelled many urban areas. Hopes of finding more people alive are fading, as the casualty toll rises to 1,719 people dead and 5,000 injured as of June 30. Quake victims have accused authorities of being too slow to mobilise help, including sending in heavy equipment to help in the search for more survivors. Many residents have resorted to digging through the rubble with basic tools and their bare hands.
