Tokyo government tells employees to ditch suits and wear shorts in bid to save energy
The Japanese government will allow employees to wear short-sleeved shirts, shorts and trainers in an upgraded ‘Cool Biz’ initiative, which did away with jackets and ties in previous summers.
As Tokyo saw temperatures soar to around 35 degrees Celsius (95°F) on Tuesday, government officials were asked to ditch their usual strict suit-and-tie dress code and wear T-shirts and shorts to help the Japanese capital save on air-conditioning bills.
