A Moment of Romance, released in 1990, is still fondly remembered by Hong Kong audiences. The film was notable for the way it skilfully mixed classically styled action with melodrama and romance.

Produced by Johnnie To Kei-fung and directed by the late Benny Chan Muk-sing, the film stars Andy Lau Tak-wah and a fresh-faced Wu Chien-lien as a pair of tragic lovers.

Lau’s character is a triad who has lived his life on the streets, while Wu plays an innocent girl from a wealthy family.

The Post talked about A Moment of Romance with Frank Djeng, who provides the commentary for Radiance Films’ Blu-ray release of the film.

A Moment of Romance seems to have aged very well.

Yes, it has aged very nicely over the last 33 years. It’s a classic piece of cinema. It’s a love story with a triad element, and I think that’s what makes it special.
