Seats sell out on Hong Kong’s new high-speed rail routes to mainland China
Business-class seats on the January 26 train to Nanjing South, priced at HK$3,136, were sold out by Monday afternoon

Hong Kong’s expanded high-speed rail network has proved an instant hit among travellers, with tickets for several classes of seats on trains to 16 newly added mainland Chinese destinations selling out on the first day of sales.
The Post observed that while crowds did not show up to buy tickets at the West Kowloon station, online sales moved quickly.
The MTR Corporation announced on Sunday that it would add 16 new destinations to its high-speed rail network from Hong Kong, with ticket sales starting on Monday and train services beginning on January 26.
They include long-haul destinations such as Nanjing and Wuxi in Jiangsu province, as well as closer cities in Guangdong and Fujian.
Business-class seats on the train to Nanjing South on January 26, priced at HK$3,136 (US$402.40), were sold out by the afternoon, while only seven first-class seats remained at HK$1,628.
The journey is expected to take about seven hours.
