Recap by phillip woo

Amazing Award was ridden patiently fourth last and ran on nicely down the middle to overhaul Satirical Fan in the final few metres for a second Valley 1,650m this term. Satirical Fan did everything right but get the win after moving to the lead 150m out following a prominent run on the fence. It was his best effort from four starts following a downgrade. Mighty Commander stuck on well for third after a wide without cover trip travelling better than midfield despite gate four. He has honest Valley 1,650m form at this level. Flying Wrote was short of room late after a one-off trip from midfield. He should have gone close to placing. Run Run Timing grudgingly gave way after dictating the pace from gate five. It was an encouraging effort at his first run over the Valley 1,650m. Jubilant Winner stayed on all right for sixth after a wide trip from behind midfield at his first start over the Valley 1,650m. He was always going to be set a task from gate 12. Favourite Setanta was disappointing after a rails run from behind midfield. The quick back up off a placing in Class Three last Wednesday failed to pan out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five : (654) - SAINT-CLOUD HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 SETANTA (G095) L Ferraris Bumped at the start.

After the event L Ferraris stated that the only explanation he could offer for the performance was that SETANTA did not appreciate racing in amongst other horses.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 SMART TRIO (J538) M L Yeung M L Yeung was found guilty of a careless riding charge for causing interference approaching the 300 Metres (see ORIENTAL SURPRISE).

Trainer C W Chang confirmed that from a wide barrier the instructions were to take up a forward position.

Horse No 3 STORMI (K084) C L Chau Approaching the 300 Metres was held up when being shifted to the outside of JUBILANT WINNER to obtain clear running.

Horse No 4 MIGHTY COMMANDER (J360) H Bowman Bumped at the start.

Over the concluding stages could not be fully ridden out when crowded between SATIRICAL FAN and AMAZING AWARD, both of which shifted ground.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 5 FLYING WROTE (J290) Y L Chung On jumping became unbalanced when crowded between SETANTA and MIGHTY COMMANDER.

Making the Home Turn was held up for clear running behind SMART TRIO.

When placed under pressure in the early part of the Home Straight lay in.

Over the concluding stages could not be ridden out when positioned close to SATIRICAL FAN.

Horse No 6 SATIRICAL FAN (J214) J Orman Raced keenly in the early stages after being crossed by RUN RUN TIMING.

After the event J Orman stated that he was given the option to ride his mount with cover if another runner showed intent to lead.

He said in the early stages when RUN RUN TIMING was ridden forward he elected to allow that runner to cross in accordance with his instructions.

Trainer C S Shum confirmed the instructions issued.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 FIGOPUMPKIN (K137) B Avdulla Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 8 JUBILANT WINNER (J346) A Hamelin Approaching the 300 Metres shifted in slightly when endeavouring to hold its position to the outside of AMAZING AWARD (K Teetan) which commenced to shift to the outside of MIGHTY COMMANDER.

As a result AMAZING AWARD made heavy contact with JUBILANT WINNER, resulting in JUBILANT WINNER becoming badly unbalanced and shifting out.

As the Stewards were satisfied that the shift in from JUBILANT WINNER had contributed to the contact between the two runners, K Teetan was severely reprimanded.

Horse No 9 DEAL COMPLETED (J378) H T Mo Noted to have blood in the mouth on arrival at the Start.

Was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

After the event H T Mo stated that the instructions were to hold a forward position but when his mount was slow to begin it settled back in the field.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 AMAZING AWARD (J236) K Teetan Jumped awkwardly.

Near the 300 Metres shifted out and made heavy contact with JUBILANT WINNER.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 ORIENTAL SURPRISE (K028) B Thompson M L Yeung (SMART TRIO) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 300 Metres he allowed his mount to shift out when not clear of ORIENTAL SURPRISE, resulting in ORIENTAL SURPRISE having to be checked when crowded between MIGHTY COMMANDER and SMART TRIO.

Having regard to the fact that his mount was hanging out and he had initially made an effort to prevent it from shifting ground, he was issued with a severe reprimand.
