Recap by phillip woo

Cambridge travelled one off behind midfield and quickened nicely to claim victory in the concluding stages. It was his best performance at his initial run over the Valley 1,800m from six local runs. Early favourite Excellence Value found one just too good after sustaining his move from better than midfield at the 600m to lead 150m out. It was a good effort in defeat. Samarkand kept on well for third after tracking the leader Money Catcher from gate 10. He has honest form over the Valley 1,800m. Post-time favourite Joy Of Spring whacked on one-paced after a prominent run along the inside. He hasn't been beaten far without threatening in four starts this term. Chain Of Gold made some ground for fifth after a rails run from midfield. He's honest but has had trouble winning in his 11 starts this term. Money Catcher was on his tippy toes 100m out after clearing to lead from gate six. He's gone a shade better in his past two of three runs following a downgrade. Rocket Spade's bid from last at the 700m was short-lived.
