Recap by phillip woo

Old-timer Wood On Fire shaded the favourite So Awesome one off for the lead from gate four and kept finding to land a betting move while earning an eighth win over the Valley 1,200m from 82 starts. So Awesome had his chance but found one just too good after keeping the winner posted to his outside. He's racing well without winning. Oriental Surprise ran on a close third after a rails run from midfield. It was his best effort from eight starts following a downgrade. Sonic Boom stayed on nicely for fourth after sitting close to the speed wide without cover the entire trip from gate eight. It was a better effort on recent runs with a return to the course and distance of a second at this time last year. Firming to nearly jump favourite, Multidarling ran on steadily for fifth after making his run behind midfield on the fence. Ragnarr ran on without threatening after a wide with cover trip from midfield. Notthesillyone made headway late near the inside to finish next best after making his run at the rear from gate 10. Hoss ran on without threatening near the outside after settling third last from gate 12.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two : (709) - DORDOGNE HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 ORIENTAL SURPRISE (K028) B Thompson Lay in in the Home Straight.

For a short distance near the 100 Metres was positioned close to the heels of WOOD ON FIRE.

Horse No 2 CONCORDE STAR (J344) H Bentley Jumped only fairly.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Leaving the 600 Metres lay out and bumped with NOTTHESILLYONE.

Horse No 3 SWEET DIAMOND (G063) B Avdulla Bumped at the start.

After the event B Avdulla reported that his mount came under pressure in the middle stages of the event and failed to finish the race off thereafter.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 CAMP FIRE (J259) H Bowman When questioned H Bowman stated that he was given no specific instructions other than to settle his mount where comfortable.

He said in the early stages when caught wide he did not ride his mount forward as he felt this would be contrary to his instructions and as a result CAMP FIRE made the first turn wide.

He said entering the Back Straight he had expected WOOD ON FIRE to continue forward to lead which would have allowed SONIC BOOM to take up a position one-off and would have afforded CAMP FIRE the opportunity to shift closer to the rail albeit still wide and without cover.

He added that when WOOD ON FIRE maintained its position to the outside of SO AWESOME this resulted in CAMP FIRE being obliged to race very wide and without cover.

He said when he felt his horse was not travelling well enough to go forward and cross SONIC BOOM he was obliged to race very wide and without cover thereafter.

He further stated that from the 500 Metres CAMP FIRE did not respond to his riding and gave ground thereafter.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 NOTTHESILLYONE (J383) L Hewitson From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
