Recap by phillip woo

Jumbo Legend showed a sterling turn of foot down the outside from last to take control 50m out for a third Valley success from his past seven starts. He was suited by the strong tempo. Win Beauty Viva ran on nicely through the centre to spice up the quinella after making his run one-off travelling behind midfield. It was a much-improved effort at his second local start. Aestheticism came from near last to fill a placing. He's as honest as the day is long. Samarkand had his chance after a one-off trip from better than midfield but found a few too good. Favourite Flying Fortress succumbed late for fifth after chasing the genuine pace of surprise leader Lucky Touch. Punted late Lucky Touch was next best after setting a good pace in front from gate 10. He's a more effective runner when ridden conservatively in the run. Hameron only beat a few from near the rear. Absolute Honour tamely faded after a box-seat run. M Unicorn came up empty after a rails run from midfield. He's disappointed in three runs after a win.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven : (714) - RHINE HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 M UNICORN (G466) E C W Wong Noted to have sustained abrasions to the left hip and the tail base on arrival at Happy Valley.

Was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

After the event Apprentice E C W Wong stated that his mount again made a respiratory noise during the running of the race.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.

Horse No 2 AESTHETICISM (H289) A Atzeni H Bowman (JUMBO LEGEND) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the concluding stages he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of AESTHETICISM, resulting in AESTHETICISM having to be checked to avoid JUMBO LEGEND.

As Jockey Bowman is suspended from riding in races on 4 June 2025, 28 June 2025 and 1 July 2025, the Stewards substituted the one-meeting penalty to a $60,000 fine in accordance with standard practice.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his very good race riding record.

Horse No 3 HAMERON (H265) C L Chau Near the 100 Metres shifted in and made contact with ABSOLUTE HONOUR.

Over the concluding stages could not be ridden out when held up between FLYING FORTRESS and SAMARKAND.

Horse No 4 JUMBO LEGEND (G266) H Bowman Jumped awkwardly.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

H Bowman pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference over the concluding stages (see AESTHETICISM).

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 FLYING FORTRESS (J445) H Bentley A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 LUCKY TOUCH (J203) A Badel After the event A Badel stated that he was given the option to hold a more forward position.

He said when LUCKY TOUCH jumped well he elected to ride forward to cross runners to his inside and was able to lead the event.

Trainer J Richards confirmed the instructions issued.

Horse No 7 SAMARKAND (H070) L Hewitson On jumping was crowded between WIN BEAUTY VIVA and ALLCASH which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

Horse No 8 ABSOLUTE HONOUR (K260) Y L Chung Near the 100 Metres was bumped by HAMERON.

Horse No 9 ALLCASH (K190) K C Leung Shifted in at the start and made contact with SAMARKAND.
