Speedy Smartie took the trail on the back of the leader Notthesillyone from 1,000m out and kept on gamely after leading 300m from home for a third win from 31 starts. Double Bingo ran on strongly to finish a close second after a wide trip with cover from behind midfield. He was able to add to back-to-back placings at his final two starts last term. Notthesillyone would not go down without a fight after clearing to the lead 1,000m out from gate nine. It was a solid first effort on this surface following a Happy Valley success in July. Punted close to the off, Euro Rocks was motoring late for fourth without threatening the top three after making his run one from the rear. He was a well-rated runner on his return to this preferred all-weather track.

Racing Incident Report

Race One : (45) - TROPICBIRD HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 LEGEND STAR (K271) R Kingscote Shortly after the start made contact with FALCON COURT due to both runners shifting ground.

A short distance later LEGEND STAR then became unbalanced when crowded between FALCON COURT and EURO ROCKS which shifted in slightly.

Between the 300 Metres and the 100 Metres was badly held up for clear running behind CHEER FOR SOUTH.

Horse No 5 SUNNY DARLING (J171) B Avdulla At declaration time, A Atzeni was declared as the rider of both SUNNY DARLING and CHEER FOR SOUTH.

It was established that A Atzeni had been inadvertently declared as the rider of SUNNY DARLING when in fact B Avdulla had been engaged to ride that horse.

For this declaration error, Trainer P C Ng was fined $2,000.

After the event B Avdulla stated that his mount did not show sufficient pace to cross runners in the early stages and as a consequence raced wide and without cover for the majority of the race before giving ground in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have blood at the right nostril.

An endoscopic examination conducted on SUNNY DARLING found that there was no blood in its trachea and therefore the blood in the nostril was determined to be not coming from the lungs and as such the horse was deemed not to have bled.

Horse No 6 BRILLIANT FIRE (J441) H Bowman Near the 800 Metres was hampered when taken wider.

After the event H Bowman stated that his mount gave ground in the Home Straight, particularly over the final 200 Metres and he felt that the horse may have been galloped on during the running of the race by another runner.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 CHEER FOR SOUTH (H178) A Atzeni After the event A Atzeni reported that his mount, which was racing first up today, finished the race off satisfactorily and, in his opinion, would derive a fitness benefit from today's performance.

Horse No 8 SPEEDY SMARTIE (H108) K Teetan K Teetan pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 800 Metres (see DOUBLE BINGO).

Horse No 9 EURO ROCKS (H153) C L Chau After the event C L Chau reported that he was given no specific instructions where to settle, however, he was advised he should ensure that his mount obtained cover.

Horse No 10 FALCON COURT (J056) L Hewitson Shortly after the start made contact with LEGEND STAR due to both runners shifting ground.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.

Horse No 11 DOUBLE BINGO (J309) M F Poon K Teetan (SPEEDY SMARTIE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 800 Metres he directed his mount out across the heels of NOTTHESILLYONE, resulting in BRILLIANT FIRE being hampered and taken wider and causing DOUBLE BINGO to be checked.

K Teetan was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Sunday, 12 October 2025 at Sha Tin.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his very good race riding record.
