Recap by phillip woo

Well backed Apolar Fighter settled midfield on the rails and burst through a gap near the inside to win going away 150m out for a maiden success at his 20th start. Favourite Courier Magic ran on well with one wider out for second after a patient ride three from the rear. It was a good effort carrying top weight and he should break through shortly at this level. Ninja Derby ended third after working like a trojan wide to eventually lead near the 200m following a wide trip without cover travelling better than midfield from gate 12. It was a solid effort carrying 11lb more following a win. Specked late Dragon Sunrise plugged on one paced for fourth after a prominent run on the fence. It was his best effort from 11 starts at his first start over the Valley 1,650m. Gold Tack made good ground late without menacing settling last from gate four. He prefers an 1,800m trip. He Was Me was on his tippy toes 100m out after finding the front from gate six. It was an OK effort at his first go over the Valley 1,650m. Foremost Teddy just held his ground after a wide trip with cover from behind midfield.

Race One : (95) - NGAU CHI WAN HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 COURIER MAGIC (H290) Z Purton Raced keenly in the early stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 NINJA DERBY (H339) L Hewitson Was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 3 COSMO LIGHT (J379) H T Mo Became fractious whilst being loaded at Sha Tin and sustained a small abrasion to the right knee.

Was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

After the event H T Mo confirmed that the instructions from a wide barrier were to go forward.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 DRAGON SUNRISE (J269) K De Melo Held up approaching the 300 Metres.

Horse No 5 LITTLE FAIRY (H206) R Kingscote Jumped only fairly.

R Kingscote was warned in relation to using his whip in a manner where the hand holding the whip was above shoulder height on one occasion near the 200 Metres.

Horse No 7 GOLD TACK (H106) M F Poon Shortly after the start became unbalanced when crowded between APOLAR FIGHTER and THE WAY WE WIN.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages failed to show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position.

Between the 250 Metres and the 150 Metres was held up for clear running.

Horse No 8 HE WAS ME (J535) M L Yeung Noted to have blood at the mouth on arrival at the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

Horse No 9 MANYTHANKS FOREVER (J065) D Probert Shifted out abruptly at the start and was bumped.

Near the 1400 Metres was momentarily crowded by HE WAS ME which shifted in slightly before being corrected by its rider M L Yeung.

Making the first turn near the 1300 Metres was eased to allow LAPRAS (M Chadwick) to cross.

M Chadwick was advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.

Near the 500 Metres shifted out abruptly when being steadied to avoid LAPRAS.

Horse No 10 APOLAR FIGHTER (J169) C L Chau Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 THE WAY WE WIN (J493) H Bentley Jumped awkwardly and shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between GOLD TACK and MANYTHANKS FOREVER which shifted out abruptly.

Approaching the 600 Metres was shifted to a position one-off to follow MANYTHANKS FOREVER.

Near the 500 Metres MANYTHANKS FOREVER then shifted out abruptly when being steadied to avoid LAPRAS which resulted in THE WAY WE WIN improving to the inside of MANYTHANKS FOREVER.

A short distance later THE WAY WE WIN struck the heels of MANYTHANKS FOREVER when that runner shifted back in to resume its position.

As the Stewards were satisfied that there was no rider error involved in the incident no action was taken.

After the event H Bentley stated that his mount settled further back in the field after being crowded at the start.

He said after THE WAY WE WIN lost ground when it blundered near the 600 Metres it did not finish the race off thereafter.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 LAPRAS (H374) M Chadwick Over the final 100 Metres could not be ridden out when held up behind COSMO LIGHT which was giving ground.
