Recap by phillip woo

Favourite South Star had the perfect trip in fifth along the fence and after shooting to the front 160m out, he won geared down for a third win and from nine starts. A Americ Te Specso came from last and widest out to grab second. He appreciated the step up in distance after making good ground late for sixth last month over 1,200m. Ivy League stayed on well for third after a prominent run one off the fence. It was another good effort after ending last season in a good patch of form. Veteran Atullibigeal worked home well near the inside for fourth after a rails run from behind midfield. It was his best effort from three career outings over the Valley 1,650m. Top Time made a steady bid for fifth after a one-off trip from midfield. It was an okay effort on his return to the Valley 1,650m after notching placings in two earlier 1,400m runs this term. Star Contact had his chance but kept on one paced after a box-seat run. Noble Pursuit ran on without threatening after making his run two from the rear. Heavily backed Lovero tamely faded after crossing to lead near the 1,200m from gate 11.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight : (121) - SONGS OF VICTORY HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 DEFINITIVE (K037) K Teetan K Teetan stated that his mount jumped only fairly and as a result settled further back in the field than what had been anticipated.

Horse No 3 STAR CONTACT (E472) B Avdulla Near the 1500 Metres was bumped heavily and became unbalanced.

Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of B Avdulla, 6th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ensure that he fully rides his mounts out to the finish of the race.

Horse No 4 A AMERIC TE SPECSO (H037) A Atzeni From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 SOUTH STAR (K153) Z Purton Near the 1500 Metres was steadied when crowded by STAR CONTACT.

Near the 1000 Metres was briefly crowded by IVY LEAGUE which lay in.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 LOVERO (H451) Y L Chung Y L Chung was found guilty of a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 1500 Metres (see ONE MORE).

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 RISING FROM ASHES (G209) J Orman From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 8 NOBLE PURSUIT (H324) L Ferraris Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 9 IVY LEAGUE (H116) R Kingscote Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 10 ONE MORE (K261) L Hewitson Y L Chung (LOVERO) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1500 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of ONE MORE, resulting in ONE MORE having to be checked and taken in onto STAR CONTACT, causing ONE MORE to make heavy contact with STAR CONTACT, resulting in STAR CONTACT becoming unbalanced in this incident.

After assessing the carelessness grade 1 and the consequences grade 2 and having regard to his record, the Stewards determined the appropriate penalty to be a reprimand.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 11 TOP TIME (K006) K De Melo K De Melo reported that leaving the 50 Metres he briefly stopped riding when he heard a call from a rider to his inside.

He added that once he ascertained he was clear he continued to ride his mount out to the finish.
