Recap by phillip woo

Debutant Ever Luck cleared to lead from gate 14, lost the lead when running off the track rounding the final bend before rebalancing and getting up 80m out to land a betting plunge. He did it on raw ability and has a bright future. Georgian Sigma was hampered and taken seven wide by Ever Luck 500m out following a speed-tracking run before regaining his composure and running on nicely for second. Motor found a couple too good after being gifted the lead 450m out following a prominent run on the fence. The 8lb rise in weight took its toll following a win. Sparkle And Gold ran on nicely for fourth from behind midfield. He's gone much better in both outings this term. Alabama Song just plodded when asked for an effort after making his run third and one off the fence. He appeared to need the outing. Winning Champion made a mild bid after a rails run from midfield. Forever Fancy kept on one paced after a one-off trip from midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two : (124) - PANASONIC TV HANDICAP - Class 4R - 1200Meters

Horse No 2 ALABAMA SONG (K480) B Avdulla Near the 550 Metres was steadied away from GEORGIAN SIGMA when that runner was taken out by EVER LUCK.

Horse No 3 EVER LUCK (K235) J Orman Ran out abruptly near the 550 Metres despite the efforts of its rider J Orman to prevent the horse from shifting ground (protest/objection - see GEORGIAN SIGMA).

Trainer M Newnham was advised that EVER LUCK will be required to perform satisfactorily in a turf track gallop around a bend at Sha Tin Racecourse and also a barrier trial around a bend prior to being permitted to race again.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 FOREST KING (K527) C L Chau Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 6 GEORGIAN SIGMA (L007) Z Purton The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in due to an incident occurred after the 550 Metres where the 2nd placegetter GEORGIAN SIGMA was badly hampered when taken wider by the winner EVER LUCK.

Subsequently the Stewards considered a protest/objection lodged by Jockey Z Purton and Trainer P C Ng alleging interference against EVER LUCK after the 550 Metres.

After considering all the evidence it was established that EVER LUCK ran out abruptly near the 550 Metres despite the efforts of its rider J Orman to prevent the horse from shifting ground.

In this incident GEORGIAN SIGMA was badly hampered when taken wider.

After considering the incident, the manner in which both horses finished the race off and the margin of 1 3/4 lengths between the two horses at the end of the race, the Stewards overruled the protest/objection when they could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not have occurred that GEORGIAN SIGMA would have finished in advance of EVER LUCK.

Accordingly, weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

Z Purton stated that after being badly hampered near the 550 Metres his mount, which was having its first race start, became unbalanced and took some time to respond to his riding in the early stages of the Home Straight.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 SUPER MASTERMIND (K541) H Bowman Bumped at the start.

Horse No 8 WINNING CHAMPION (K429) M F Poon Jumped only fairly.

Near the 500 Metres was shifted to the outside of ALABAMA SONG to obtain clear running when ALABAMA SONG shifted in after initially being taken wider.

Horse No 9 JUST FOLLOW ME (K332) K Teetan Jumped awkwardly, made contact with the left side of its starting gate, shifted out and made contact with SUPER MASTERMIND.

Leaving the 400 Metres endeavoured to improve to the inside of SUPER MASTERMIND (H Bowman) as that runner then shifted in.

H Bowman was reprimanded and advised he must ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.

Horse No 10 DASHING MAURISON (K374) R Kingscote Jumped only fairly and then became unbalanced when bumped by MAZING GRACE.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 11 HYANNIS STAR (K331) A Atzeni Bumped at the start and became unbalanced.

Leaving the 1000 Metres commenced to race keenly when steadied away from ZHOU GONGJIN.

Horse No 12 MAZING GRACE (K166) M L Yeung On jumping shifted out and made contact with HYANNIS STAR, resulting in MAZING GRACE becoming unbalanced.
