Recap by phillip woo

Ragnarr found the fence in midfield from gate 10 and ran on strongly near the inside to overhaul favourite Speedy Smartie 50m out for a second win from four starts this term. Speedy Smartie found one too good after hitting the lead 200m out prompting the pace between runners from gate seven. It was another solid run carrying more weight following a win. Run Run Timing ran on nicely down the outside for third after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He's a winner waiting to happen on the back of placings in both starts this season for his new trainer. Joyful Treasure ran on late near the inside for fourth after turning the final bend two from the rear. It was an improved effort at his second consecutive run down in Class Five. Super Elite just held his ground after a prominent run along the inside. It was an improved effort with a return to the Valley third up this term. Island Golden ran on without threatening from the rear of the field.

Racing Incident Report

Race One : (141) - DONGGUAN HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 RAGNARR (H297) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 SPEEDY SMARTIE (H108) K Teetan Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 JOYFUL TREASURE (J496) L Hewitson Jumped awkwardly.

Horse No 6 SUPER CHARIZZARD (J184) B Avdulla Shifted out at the start, was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced.

After the 300 Metres was shifted to the outside of MACANESE MASTER to attempt to obtain clear running.

As SUPER CHARIZZARD was being shifted to the outside, MACANESE MASTER (Apprentice P N Wong) commenced to give ground and shifted out slightly, resulting in SUPER CHARIZZARD having to be checked passing the 250 Metres when disappointed for clear running between SONIC BOOM and MACANESE MASTER.

As a consequence SUPER CHARIZZARD was held up between the 250 Metres and the 100 Metres.

Apprentice Wong was advised to exercise more care.

Horse No 7 COLONEL (D090) D Probert D Probert stated that his mount was disadvantaged by being pressured in the lead by SPEEDY SMARTIE and MACANESE MASTER which resulted in it not being able to run on in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 HE WAS ME (J535) M L Yeung Jumped only fairly and shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between COLONEL and SUPER CHARIZZARD which shifted out and away from SUPER ELITE.

Lay in throughout the event.

M L Yeung stated that his mount failed to travel during the race and, in his opinion, is better suited racing at Sha Tin.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 ISLAND GOLDEN (H018) C L Chau Jumped only fairly.

Lay in in the Home Straight.

Horse No 11 SONIC BOOM (H144) M Chadwick A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 MACANESE MASTER (J532) P N Wong When questioned Apprentice P N Wong stated that her instructions from the outside barrier were to lead the event.

She said on jumping MACANESE MASTER jumped awkwardly, shifted out and as a result lost some ground.

She said having regard to her instructions she elected to ride MACANESE MASTER forward to attempt to cross runners to her inside but when unable to do so MACANESE MASTER was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

When questioned if there was an opportunity to ride MACANESE MASTER in a conservative manner in the early stages, given the horse had jumped awkwardly, Apprentice Wong stated that when she thought that it was still possible to comply with her instructions as she was of the opinion a number of runners to her inside were not being ridden forward, she elected to ride her mount forward to comply with the instructions.

Trainer Y S Tsui confirmed the instructions issued.

Horse No 5 SUNNY DARLING (J171) L Ferraris Was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the Start and found to be lame in its left front leg.

Before being allowed to race again, SUNNY DARLING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments.
