Outsider I Can was among the backmarkers until following the mid-race move of Nearly Fine to come to the lead 300m and he just scrambled in from King Lotus for a fourth win from 26 starts. He had excuses in two prior starts after a close third on his season debut. King Lotus ran on nicely with one wider to finish a close second after a rails run from better than midfield. He had no trouble with a step up to 1,650m after returning a winner and third over 1,200m. Spirit Of Peace ran on well for third with three wider out after biding his time fourth last along the inside with late market action. He's produced a decent sight in all four starts across both tracks this term. Punted late Star Mac finished well for fourth after a rails run from behind midfield. He's found the line well in his past two starts but is crying out for the 1,800m trip. Dragon Air Force whacked on a onepaced fifth after settling box seat from gate five. It was an OK effort.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten : (150) - ZHUHAI HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 DRAGON AIR FORCE (J279) E C W Wong Shifted out at the start, was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced.

Horse No 2 I CAN (H381) L Ferraris When questioned regarding the improved performance as compared to its previous two starts Trainer P C Ng stated that he attributed today's improved performance to the horse racing at Happy Valley as it has a good record on the track and over the distance.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 KEEN MOLLY (K386) Z Purton Leaving the 1200 Metres KEEN MOLLY, which was racing ungenerously, was steadied when crowded between DRAGON AIR FORCE which shifted out slightly when being steadied and VIVA GRACIOUSNESS (M Chadwick) which shifted in.

M Chadwick was advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.

When questioned Z Purton stated that near the 600 Metres when positioned behind MIGHTY STEED he shifted out slightly when NEARLY FINE improved quickly to his outside.

He said as NEARLY FINE continued forward he was then obliged to steady his mount when unable to maintain the position between MIGHTY STEED and NEARLY FINE.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 ANOTHER ZONDA (K176) J Orman J Orman reported that on jumping his left foot was dislodged from his stirrup, resulting in him being placed at some disadvantage for a short distance after the start until he was able to reposition his foot into the stirrup.

He added as a consequence ANOTHER ZONDA was unable to lead the event as he had anticipated.

Horse No 5 VIVA GRACIOUSNESS (J079) M Chadwick A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 KING LOTUS (K186) L Hewitson Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 NEARLY FINE (E430) C Y Ho From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the 750 Metres commenced to race keenly and after being steadied away from I CAN shifted out and made a forward move from that point.

Horse No 8 SPIRIT OF PEACE (K007) B Avdulla On jumping was crowded between FAMILY KNIGHT which shifted in and DRAGON AIR FORCE which shifted out when being corrected by its rider.

Horse No 9 FAMILY KNIGHT (K490) D Probert Jumped awkwardly, shifted in abruptly, made contact with the hindquarters of SPIRIT OF PEACE and became unbalanced.

Horse No 11 NEZHA (K494) A Atzeni Approaching the 1400 Metres was eased to avoid ANOTHER ZONDA after that runner was positioned tight to the inside of DRAGON AIR FORCE.

Horse No 12 STAR MAC (J053) R Kingscote Jumped only fairly.

After the running of Race 1, the track classification was officially changed from "Good" to "Good to Firm" This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective.

As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 1 being run on a track rated "Good to Firm"
