Recap by phillip woo

Fantastic Fun settled one off behind midfield and came with a withering run near the outside to run down long-time leader Samarkand on the wire for back-to-back wins over the Valley 1,650m from four starts this term. He should hold his own up in grade off a light weight. Samarkand would not go down without a fight after clearing to lead at a hot pace from gate 12. He's a winner waiting to happen with placings in his past two starts. Our Lucky Glory got up for third after coming off heels close to home along the inside after making his run five back on the fence. He was able to build on a closing fourth last start. Amazing Award stayed on better for fourth after a prominent run one off the fence. He was able to brush off an out-of-character run last month. Late-fancied The Azure made only a mild bid after a rails run from midfield. Setanta was doing his best work late with one wider out for sixth after biding his time third last from gate nine.

Horse No 6 MATSU VICTOR (H472) C Y Ho Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced.

From the 150 Metres raced tight to the inside of THE AZURE.

Near the 50 Metres MATSU VICTOR was then checked when crowded between THE AZURE and OUR LUCKY GLORY (A Badel) which shifted out before being corrected by its rider.

A Badel was severely reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he must ensure there is sufficient racing room for him to improve into.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 OUR LUCKY GLORY (G292) A Badel On jumping was crowded between MATSU VICTOR and THE AZURE which shifted out.

Near the 550 Metres was steadied when momentarily crowded by FANTASTIC FUN which shifted in before being corrected by its rider H Bowman.

Horse No 10 SIMPLE HEDGE (H237) M L Yeung Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 11 SMILING EMPEROR (J371) H Bentley Shortly after the start was crowded between SETANTA and FANTASTIC FUN which shifted in slightly.

H Bentley reported that the instructions were to hold a more forward position but not to make use of the horse early as it has a tendency to race keenly.

He said when unable to hold a more forward position he elected to come back and settle towards the back of the field so that his mount was not obliged to cover additional ground.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 STERLING WONGCHOY (H273) R Kingscote Shortly after the start shifted out and bumped AMAZING AWARD.

R Kingscote reported that his mount travelled comfortably outside the leader SAMARKAND but did not respond strongly to his riding in the Home Straight.
