Racing Incident Report
Race Three : (153) - KYOTO HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 GLORY B (H373) L Hewitson L Hewitson reported that the instructions were to go forward from the outside barrier.
He said after pushing his mount soon after the start it did not show sufficient pace to go forward and as a result he elected to ride the horse in a conservative manner, particularly as it was carrying the top weight of 135 lbs.
He added that GLORY B hung out throughout the event and as a result shifted out in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 2 TOURBILLON GOLFER (K320) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 3 BIG RETURN (K192) A Badel Jumped only fairly.
From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Near the 150 Metres was shifted to the outside of CALIFORNIA DEEPLY to continue into running.
Horse No 4 CALIFORNIA DEEPLY (G451) H Bowman Approaching the finish was steadied when crowded between BIG RETURN and VON BAER which shifted out and away from NEVER SETTLE after being taken out by that runner.
Horse No 5 GRAND NOVA (J323) B Avdulla Bumped on jumping.
Horse No 6 MASTER RESOLUTE (K403) R Kingscote Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 7 NEVER SETTLE (K417) C Y Ho Making the first turn near the 1000 Metres was eased when being crossed by GRAND NOVA.
Horse No 8 GOLDEN BRILLIANT (K347) D Probert Bumped approaching the 1000 Metres.
Horse No 9 ROMAN CROWN (J456) H Doyle Shifted in at the start, made contact with VON BAER and became unbalanced.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 10 BASIC INSTINCT (K289) A Atzeni Bumped on jumping.
Approaching the 150 Metres shifted in.
A short distance later was hampered when taken wider by BIG RETURN which was shifted to the outside of CALIFORNIA DEEPLY to obtain clear running.
Horse No 11 VON BAER (K198) E C W Wong Bumped on jumping.
Horse No 12 SHOTGUN (K111) K Teetan Shortly after the start was eased when crowded between GOLDEN BRILLIANT and NEVER SETTLE, both of which shifted ground slightly.
Approaching the 1000 Metres lay in and away from BASIC INSTINCT and made contact with GOLDEN BRILLIANT.
K Teetan reported that approaching the 250 Metres when endeavouring to shift to the outside of BASIC INSTINCT his mount, which was hanging in, did not respond to his efforts to shift out and as a result blundered when positioned close to the heels of BASIC INSTINCT.
SHOTGUN continued to hang in in the Home Straight.

Heavily punted to jump favourite, Tourbillon Golfer led from gate 11 and kept finding for a maiden win at his fifth start. The win was forthcoming after placing three times. Roman Crown ran on well near the inside for second after recovering from a tardy start to travel midfield on the fence. He's building towards a win and this run provides him options outside of Sha Tin. Debutant Never Settle ran on nicely to nearly grab second after a one-off trip from just worse than midfield. He's got a bit of an engine underneath him. Grand Nova had his chance but was only good enough for fourth after a speed-tracking run. It was another honest run. Early favourite Von Baer whacked on one paced after travelling keenly fourth along the inside. He keeps promising without delivering but seems to perform a shade better at Sha Tin. Big Return made inroads late after making his run at the rear from gate nine. It was his best run from six starts and first at the Valley. California Deeply only plodded when asked for an effort after a one-off trip from better than midfield. He hasn't disgraced but has struggled to recapture top form.
