Recap by phillip woo

Raging favourite Romantic Warrior settled one off in third before rolling to the lead 350m out and finding plenty for a 20th win from 27 starts and a record fourth straight success in the Hong Kong Cup. He's a world class performer at 2,000m. Bellagio Opera ran on well for second after a prominent run on the fence. It was a cracking performance by the Japanese raider. Well-backed late Quisisana came from last of seven runners at the 300m for third without threatening the top two. It was a good run by the French raider. Galen gradually faded after pressing forward to lead 1,400m out. He found a few too good but does return to the UK with a nice pay cheque. Japan's Rousham Park ran on steadily from near the rear for fifth prize money. Chancheng Glory succumbed late after tracking the leader on the fence. Straight Arron wasn't up it after straightening with every chance along the inside from just off midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight : (261) - THE LONGINES HONG KONG CUP - Class G1 - 2000Meters

Horse No 1 ROMANTIC WARRIOR (E486) J McDonald Shifted out shortly after the start and was bumped.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 BELLAGIO OPERA (L907) K Yokoyama K Yokoyama pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 450 Metres (see QUISISANA).

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 ROUSHAM PARK (J814) C Lemaire Shortly after the start raced in restricted room between QUISISANA and ROMANTIC WARRIOR which shifted out slightly.

Horse No 5 STRAIGHT ARRON (G435) C Williams C Williams reported that his mount raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages and near the 700 Metres became unbalanced when being checked to avoid BELLAGIO OPERA.

He added in the Home Straight STRAIGHT ARRON was unable to finish the race off.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 CHANCHENG GLORY (H212) M Guyon A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 QUISISANA (L910) C Soumillon Bumped shortly after the start.

K Yokoyama (BELLAGIO OPERA) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 450 Metres he directed his mount out when not clear of QUISISANA, resulting in QUISISANA being badly crowded for room and losing its rightful running.

K Yokoyama was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Thursday, 1 January 2026 and to expire on Monday, 5 January 2026 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In addition, Jockey Yokoyama was fined $100,000.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account the consequences of the incident and Jockey Yokoyama's good record.

When questioned C Soumillon stated that his mount enjoyed a good run in the event behind the favourite ROMANTIC WARRIOR.

He said as QUISISANA only has a short sprint, when ROUSHAM PARK improved quickly to his outside near the 600 Metres he was reluctant to make a forward move at that point.

He added after continuing to follow ROMANTIC WARRIOR into the race his mount then near the 450 Metres was badly crowded for room when BELLAGIO OPERA shifted out and as a consequence lost momentum.

After considering his explanation the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Soumillon were reasonable in the circumstances.
