Race Five : (268) - THE HONG KONG GOLF CLUB CENTENARY CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 NORTHERN FIRE BALL (J488) H Bowman Bumped at the start.
Horse No 2 KING OBERON (H407) L Ferraris Over the final 200 Metres was held up for clear running between BITS SUPERSTAR and SUPERB BOY and made contact with SUPERB BOY on a number of occasions when endeavouring to obtain clear running.
Horse No 3 SUPERB BOY (G335) J Orman In the Home Straight lay in and made contact with KING OBERON on a number of occasions after the 200 Metres as KING OBERON endeavoured to obtain clear running.
Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 4 ALABAMA SONG (K480) B Avdulla From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 5 MEGA BONUS (E184) K C Leung Bumped at the start.
Near the 200 Metres made slight contact with LOVING VIBES due to both runners shifting ground.
Horse No 6 THUNDER PRINCE (K017) Z Purton Over the final 200 Metres was held up for clear running and could not be ridden out to the finish of the event.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 7 BITS SUPERSTAR (J362) J McDonald Became unbalanced at the start when bumped.
Horse No 8 LOVING VIBES (J359) C L Chau On jumping shifted in and became unbalanced when it made contact with BITS SUPERSTAR.
Near the 200 Metres made slight contact with MEGA BONUS due to both runners shifting ground.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 11 EVERYONE'S GALLOP (K140) C Y Ho Jumped only fairly.
From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 12 FLASH STAR (K431) R Kingscote In the early stages raced ungenerously when being shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier.
In the Home Straight lay in and near the 100 Metres rider R Kingscote dropped his right rein.
When questioned regarding the improved performance Trainer C S Shum stated that he had instructed Jockey R Kingscote to settle the horse where comfortable and endeavour to make a wide run in the Home Straight.
He said after settling in a midfield position the horse was advantaged by being able to improve to the inside away from other horses and this was the only explanation he could offer for its improved performance tonight.

Flash Star came from behind midfield to sneak through along the inside rail to take control 50m out for an upset win at his seventh start. It was clearly his best run to date. Loving Vibes did everything right but get the win after claiming the lead near the 200m following a speed-tracking run. He's turned things around to place in back-to-back runs following a move to blinkers. Bits Superstar stayed on well for third after a prominent run. He's run well to place in twice and an unlucky seventh from his past three runs over the Valley 1,200m. Old-timer Mega Bonus lost a placing late after dictating the pace from gate three. It was his best effort from five starts this term. Superb Boy stayed on well for fifth after a handy run wide and without cover from gate seven. He should find his mark shortly in this grade. California Deeply came from last and widest out to finish next best. You can forgive the runs of both firming favourite Thunder Prince and King Oberon, who were held up for most the straight.
