Recap by phillip woo

Quantum Patch was last at the 800m but after hitting the front 200m out with sustained bid out wide, he drew clear for a second win at his 29th start. He had been knocking on the door. Shinkansen stayed on well for second after a one-off trip from midfield. It was a solid effort up in grade on his season debut after a win in July. Our Lucky Glory ran on nicely down the outside after improving from near last to travel midfield coming to the final bend. He's racing well without winning. Firming favourite Quick Contribution ran on steadily for fourth without threatening the top three after getting baulked for a run 250m out following a rails run from midfield. Shanghai Style kept on all right for fifth after a prominent run. It was the dirt specialist's best effort from three starts over the Valley 1,650m. Winning Data ran on steadily for a minor cheque after travelling just worse than midfield and one-off the fence. Second favourite Ragga Bomb didn't find much when push came to shove after dictating the run from gate two. He couldn't back up a last start second.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (286) - VENUS HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 SHANGHAI STYLE (J093) H Bowman Bumped at the start.

Briefly held up on the Home Turn.

Horse No 2 QUANTUM PATCH (H166) M Guyon Was obliged to race wide and without cover from the 800 Metres.

Trainer P C Ng confirmed that from a wide barrier he had instructed M Guyon to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages to offset the wide barrier.

Noted to have multiple lacerations to the right hind leg after the race.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 THE AZURE (J227) J Orman Jumped only fairly, shifted out and made contact with SHANGHAI STYLE.

When the pace steadied approaching the 800 Metres was checked to avoid QUICK CONTRIBUTION.

Between the 250 Metres and the 50 Metres was held up for clear running.

Horse No 4 GOOD GOOD (J224) B Avdulla A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 JUSTIFY YOURSELF (J386) C L Chau Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 6 RAGGA BOMB (K162) E C W Wong Bumped on jumping.

When questioned Apprentice E C W Wong stated that his instructions were to hold an on-pace position and obtain cover if possible.

He said after complying with his instructions in the early stages to hold an on-pace position RAGGA BOMB then improved to the lead leaving the 1400 Metres.

He stated when WORLD HERO improved to his outside he was content to allow that runner to cross but when RAGGA BOMB raced a little keenly this resulted in the horse holding the lead.

He added entering the Back Straight he applied further restraint to his mount to reduce the pace of the event, however, in retrospect he agreed with the Stewards that he had steadied the pace too quickly which resulted in a number of runners positioned behind him sustaining interference.

Apprentice Wong was advised that in similar circumstances he must ensure that when he attempts to reduce the pace of a race he must not do so too quickly to avoid causing interference to other runners.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 CELTIC TIMES (G230) C Y Ho When the pace steadied approaching the 800 Metres was steadied to avoid THE AZURE.

Horse No 8 WINNING DATA (H230) K Teetan Bumped on jumping.

Horse No 10 QUICK CONTRIBUTION (K112) Z Purton When the pace steadied approaching the 800 Metres was steadied to avoid GOOD GOOD.

Held up on the Home Turn.

Leaving the 300 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of SHANGHAI STYLE in an endeavour to obtain clear running but then had some difficulty obtaining clear running between SHANGHAI STYLE and WORLD HERO near the 150 Metres.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 OUR LUCKY GLORY (G292) L Ferraris When the pace steadied approaching the 800 Metres was steadied to avoid SHINKANSEN.
