Outsider Forever Folks was wide with cover in midfield and after taking off to lead 200m out, he kept finding for a sixth win with from 47 starts. Favourite Smart Fat Cat ran on nicely to finish a close second after a rails run from midfield. He was able to back up a near win last start over 1,600m. Enthralled ran on late near the outside for third after making his run three from the rear. He's a winner in waiting with placings in back-to-back runs. Absolute Honour held his ground after getting held up for a run until the 300m following a prominent run on the fence. He's better suited over 1,600m. Automated gradually faded after sitting outside the leader Amazing Gaze from gate 14.

Horse No 2 ENTHRALLED (K252) H Bowman When being shifted out to improve making the Home Turn was steadied to avoid SHARPEN BRIGHT when SHARPEN BRIGHT commenced to give ground.

Horse No 3 FOREVER FOLKS (G463) K C Leung Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 FLUORESCENCE (L124) M Chadwick Bumped near the 600 Metres.

Horse No 5 SERANGOON (H296) H Bentley Slow to begin.

Horse No 6 ABSOLUTE HONOUR (K260) Z Purton Between the 450 Metres and the 300 Metres was held up for clear running behind AUTOMATED.

Horse No 7 AUTOMATED (K177) R Kingscote R Kingscote stated that from the outside barrier he was instructed to take up a forward position.

Horse No 8 BRIGHT INHERITANCE (J215) C L Chau Jumped only fairly.

Noted to have lost its right front plate after the race.

Horse No 9 AMAZING GAZE (K444) K Teetan K Teetan confirmed that from a wide barrier he was instructed to take up a forward position.

Horse No 10 PRESTIGE RICKY (K009) B Avdulla When the pace steadied after the 1200 Metres commenced to race keenly and leaving the 1000 Metres got its head up when being steadied away from SMART FAT CAT.

Horse No 11 ROMANTIC FANTASY (H168) A Badel From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 12 SMART FAT CAT (K280) C Y Ho In the middle stages raced keenly and leaving the 1000 Metres was steadied to avoid ABSOLUTE HONOUR.

Between the 500 Metres and the 300 Metres was held up for clear running.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 13 SHARPEN BRIGHT (H276) M F Poon Near the 600 Metres lay in when under pressure and as a result made contact with FLUORESCENCE.

Near the 500 Metres raced tight between FOREVER FOLKS and FLUORESCENCE which shifted out to improve.

Horse No 14 ON THE LASH (J182) H Y Yuen When questioned Apprentice H Y Yuen stated that her instructions were to go forward and attempt to lead the event.

She said when AMAZING GAZE and AUTOMATED showed superior pace in the early stages she was crossed by those runners approaching the 1400 Metres.

She said a short distance later when racing wide and without cover ON THE LASH raced ungenerously and got its head up.

When questioned if there was an opportunity to go forward and lead the event approaching the 1200 Metres when the pace was being run outside of standard time Apprentice Yuen agreed with the Stewards that in retrospect she had made an error of judgement in not urging her mount forward at that stage to avoid covering additional ground.

She was advised that in similar circumstances she would be expected to show better judgement than what she did on this occasion.

Trainer P C Ng confirmed the instructions issued and stated that, in his opinion, Apprentice Yuen should have allowed ON THE LASH to go forward after being crossed by AMAZING GAZE and AUTOMATED.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
