PHILIP WOO’S FORMLINE

Snowfield needs to be taken on trust at the Valley but has been hitting the line well in his past four Sha Tin starts, including a third two runs ago over 2,000m, and should be suited by a step up to 2,200m. Liveandletlive stretches out to 2,200m but has given a good sight on the speed to fill the frame in all three Valley 1,800m starts this term and was successful at 2,000m in May. Whoever catches him should win. Charity Gain has been doing his best work late for third and fifth in a pair of Valley 1800m starts this term and has placed third in both runs over 2,200m. He remains one for the shortlist. The Auspicious continues to hit the line well in his past two starts at this level, including a recent third with a step up to 1,800m, and does have the pedigree to handle this trip. He doesn't mind the Valley and is a lightweight threat.

TROUBLE IN RUNNING

ROMANTIC THOR (K012) between the 450M and the 300M was held up for clear running - Race 201.

WROTE A NEW PAGE (K226) shifted out at the start and was bumped - Race 234.

SNOWFIELD (K251) near the 900M raced keenly and was steadied - Race 259.

TURIN MASCOT (H165) from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 187.

STURDY RUBY (H207) jumped only fairly. Over the concluding stages could not be ridden out when it improved behind a runner. Rider reported that the intention was to hold a more forward position but despite being ridden along in the early stages his mount did not show sufficient pace to do so. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 234.

CHARITY GAIN (H431) jumped only fairly. Approaching the finish shifted out slightly and made contact with a runner - Race 234.

AESTHETICISM (H289) near the 150M was steadied when crowded. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 234.

AGENDA (K160) jumped awkwardly, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced and her mount losing ground. The Stewards opened an inquiry into rider's riding out of the horse in the Home Straight. Rider stated that her intention was to hold a more forward position but in the early stages was unable to do so. She said throughout the event her mount hung in and proved difficult to ride out. She added entering the Home Straight her mount was hampered when taken wider by a runner when that runner shifted out at that point. She said thereafter she was reluctant to ride her mount out as it continued to hang in and she was concerned if she rode it along it would shift in and either cause interference or be awkwardly placed on the heels of the runners in front. She further stated that for that reason she was unable to fully test the horse over the final 400M. Trainer confirmed the instructions issued and acknowledged the horse had previously hung in in its races and races best when being able to be positioned close to the running rail. After considering her evidence the Stewards advised rider that, wherever possible, she must ensure that she fully tests her mounts during a race. However, having regard to her explanations which were provided to the Stewards immediately after the race no action was taken. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings. Has since performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial starting from a wide barrier which must include the horse being ridden out under pressure - Race 201.

MONEY CATCHER (G171) jumped only fairly - Race 259.

THE AUSPICIOUS (K004) in the early stages raced ungenerously when being shifted in behind runners - Race 259.

MONDIAL (K206) bumped at the start. Rider reported that his mount lay in, particularly when under pressure in the Home Straight. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 234.

TRACKWORK HIGHLIGHT

Romantic Thor worked stylishly on the Sha Tin turf last Thursday and can be an improver.
