Racing Incident Report
Race Six : (490) - THE LOK SIN TONG CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1400Meters
Horse No 1 STELLAR SWIFT (J139) H Bowman Shifted in at the start and was bumped.
After the event, H Bowman stated that he was given the option of holding an on-pace position.
He said after commencing well and when caught wide he elected to continue forward to race outside the lead rather than covering additional ground.
Horse No 2 ETALON OR (J273) R Kingscote A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a minor laceration to the right hind cannon.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 3 KA YING SUPERB (J091) K Teetan Over the final 100 Metres raced tight to the inside of GALLANT EPOCH.
Horse No 4 RICH HORSE (J191) D McDonogh Fractious in the starting gates.
Before being allowed to race again, RICH HORSE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
Crowded on jumping by THE AUSPICIOUS which shifted in after making contact with STELLAR SWIFT.
Horse No 5 GALLANT EPOCH (J451) L Hewitson Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 BOMBUS (J410) Y L Chung Bumped at the start.
Horse No 7 WROTE A NEW PAGE (K226) B Avdulla Crowded at the start by JOLLY JUMPER which shifted in.
A Badel (JOLLY JUMPER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of WROTE A NEW PAGE, resulting in WROTE A NEW PAGE being crowded for room for some distance after the 200 Metres and having to be checked.
A Badel was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 26 March 2025 at Sha Tin.
In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his very good race riding record.
Horse No 8 STRATHPEFFER (H095) L Ferraris For some distance near the 200 Metres raced tight to the inside of WROTE A NEW PAGE and made contact with that runner leaving the 200 Metres.
Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 9 SUNNY Q (J223) K De Melo Jumped awkwardly and got its head up.
Leaving the 200 Metres was eased to avoid THE AUSPICIOUS (M L Yeung) which shifted in.
M L Yeung was advised to exercise more care.
Horse No 10 MUSANG KING (K068) H Bentley Raced very wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 11 COSMIC SPURS (J380) B Thompson Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with BOMBUS.
After the event, B Thompson stated that from an inside barrier and his mount stepping up in distance he was given the option of holding a more forward position.
Horse No 12 HAPPY UNIVERSE (J533) J Orman Near the 900 Metres commenced to race keenly and was steadied to avoid BOMBUS.
For some distance approaching the 200 Metres was held up for clear running.
Leaving the 200 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between STRATHPEFFER and WROTE A NEW PAGE.
Approaching the 150 Metres was then steadied when disappointed between SUNNY Q and WROTE A NEW PAGE and as a result was not able to be tested until near the 50 Metres.
Horse No 13 JOLLY JUMPER (K110) A Badel Shifted in at the start and was bumped.
After being crossed by ETALON OR approaching the 1000 Metres commenced to race keenly and was steadied away from that runner.
A Badel pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 200 Metres (see WROTE A NEW PAGE).
Horse No 14 THE AUSPICIOUS (K004) M L Yeung Bumped at the start and became unbalanced.
When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer Y S Tsui stated that today's win had come as a surprise to him.
He said the only explanation he could offer for the improved performance was that THE AUSPICIOUS was suited by settling back in the field when the middle stages of the event was run inside of standard time and being advantaged by coming to the outside and receiving clear running in the Home Straight.

The Auspicious came from last after peeling into the open 250m out to just overhaul Gallant Epoch for a maiden win after showing nothing in five other starts. He was very hard to find but did carry a light weight. Gallant Epoch kept on gamely for second despite being pestered to his outside by Stellar Swift after being hard ridden to lead 1,100m out. It was another solid run carrying seven pounds more following a win. Ka Ying Superb ran on nicely along the inside to just miss second after a one-off trip from midfield. He's a winner waiting to happen. Punted late Stellar Swift grudgingly gave way after prompting the pace from gate 11. It was a better effort with a return to the level of a win in October. Jolly Jumper kept on all right for fifth after a wide with cover trip from midfield. He keeps finishing thereabouts. Favourite Etalon Or just held his ground after travelling between runners from better than midfield. The riding change to Richard Kingscote failed to work the oracle after knocking on the door in six other starts this term.
