The unwanted in betting Red Lion dictated the pace from gate 12 and just held off raging favourite Voyage Bubble by a bob of the heads for a sixth win and first over 1,600m from 29 starts. Voyage Bubble just failed by the shortest of margins after tracking the leader from gate 10. It was another solid effort. Sunlight Power ran on nicely near the inside for third settling behind midfield on the fence. It was a huge run up in class at set weights. My Wish battled on fourth when asked for an effort after a box-seat run. It was a pleasing performance by the four-year-old. Punted late Galaxy Patch dashed late down the outside for fifth after making his run at the rear from a wide draw. It was another honest effort. Happy Together made headway late for sixth after making his run three from the rear. Beauty Joy was doing his best work late without threatening travelling second last from a middle draw. Australian raider and second favourite Mr Brightside failed to fire after a one-off trip from behind midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven : (626) - THE FWD CHAMPIONS MILE - Class G1 - 1600Meters

Horse No 1 MR BRIGHTSIDE (K930) C Williams Bumped shortly after the start.

After the event C Williams stated that his mount raced a little keenly during the race but was still disappointing in its failure to respond in the Home Straight and he could offer no excuse for the horse's performance.

Trainer B Hayes stated that the horse settled a little further back than what had been anticipated and then was disadvantaged by racing too keenly.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 2 VOYAGE BUBBLE (E436) J McDonald Blundered on jumping.

The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the view that an incident occurred over the concluding stages which cast doubt as to whether RED LION should be declared the winner.

Subsequently J McDonald, the rider of VOYAGE BUBBLE, 2nd placegetter, lodged a protest/objection against RED LION being declared the winner alleging interference over the concluding stages.

After considering the evidence the Stewards found that RED LION shifted out over the concluding stages, making slight contact with VOYAGE BUBBLE, however, they could not be comfortably satisfied that had the contact not have occurred that VOYAGE BUBBLE would have finished in advance of RED LION and therefore the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 GAIA FORCE (K931) Y Kawada Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 4 BEAUTY ETERNAL (H008) A Atzeni Jumped only fairly and then was steadied when crowded by SUNLIGHT POWER which shifted in.

Horse No 5 BEAUTY JOY (E058) B Avdulla Near the 400 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of MR BRIGHTSIDE to obtain clear running.

BEAUTY JOY then had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres.

Horse No 6 GALAXY PATCH (H399) Z Purton Jumped awkwardly.

From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 7 ROYAL PATRONAGE (K932) T Clark Shortly after the start was crowded between HAPPY TOGETHER and MR BRIGHTSIDE, both of which shifted ground.

Raced keenly in the early stages.

After the event T Clark stated that his mount became worked up behind the starting gates, travelled only fairly during the event and did not respond to his riding in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 CHANCHENG GLORY (H212) J Moreira Jumped awkwardly.

Near the 200 Metres was shifted to the inside of ROYAL PATRONAGE to continue into clear running.

Horse No 9 HAPPY TOGETHER (G446) A Badel Bumped shortly after the start.

Horse No 10 RED LION (H115) H Bowman Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 MY WISH (J256) L Ferraris Approaching the 1000 Metres was steadied when being crossed by RED LION.

Horse No 13 SUNLIGHT POWER (H244) C Soumillon Noted to have blood in the mouth on arrival at the Start.

Was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.
