Recap by phillip woo

The prominently ridden Mister Dapper rushed to the lead 230m out and just held on by a lip for a third win and two on the bounce after a stable change. Fortune Boy ran on strongly to just miss after getting held up for a run until near the 200m after making his run two from the rear. He should have won. Pearl Of Pang's battled on well for third after a box-seat run. He's honest but has trouble winning. California Banner ran on well to just miss a placing after a one-off trip from midfield. It was a fine effort after his first start following lameness in November. Veteran Beauty Live stayed on for fifth without threatening the first four after a wide without cover trip travelling worse than midfield. He is not far off a rating bottom. Flagship Warrior ran on steadily from midfield to just miss fifth prize money.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four : (770) - TOPAZ HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1600Meters

Horse No 1 MISTER DAPPER (H376) B Avdulla Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 BRIGHT INHERITANCE (J215) C L Chau Jumped only fairly and then was crowded by CALIFORNIA BANNER which shifted in.

Horse No 3 FLAGSHIP WARRIOR (G452) L Ferraris Approaching the 800 Metres got its head up when being steadied to avoid CALIFORNIA BANNER.

Leaving the 450 Metres was shifted to the outside of CALIFORNIA BANNER to obtain clear running and as a result made contact with BEAUTY LIVE.

Horse No 4 FORTUNE BOY (K098) Z Purton Bumped shortly after the start.

When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the Home Straight Z Purton stated that after improving to the inside of FLAGSHIP WARRIOR approaching the 400 Metres he then elected to shift out to follow CALIFORNIA BANNER near the 350 Metres.

He said his decision to shift out was influenced by the fact that CALIFORNIA BANNER shifted to the outside of MISTER DAPPER and he had expected CALIFORNIA BANNER to improve into the race.

He added when CALIFORNIA BANNER did not quicken as he had expected he then eased his mount near the 300 Metres and shifted to the inside of CALIFORNIA BANNER where he secured clear running.

After considering his explanation the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Purton were reasonable in the circumstances, however, the Stewards were of the opinion that his better option would have been to immediately follow MISTER DAPPER through to provide his mount with clear running sooner than it had obtained.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 CALIFORNIA BANNER (J132) Y L Chung Shifted in at the start and was bumped.

Horse No 6 RED MAJESTY (E028) M L Yeung When giving ground after the 200 Metres was eased when racing tight between FIGHT TIME and JOLLY JUMPER which shifted in.

Horse No 7 BEAUTY LIVE (G057) A Hamelin Bumped heavily on jumping.

Bumped leaving the 450 Metres.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 8 JOLLY JUMPER (K110) L Hewitson After the event L Hewitson stated that he was obliged to make use of his mount in the early stages when caught wide to take up a position closer to the rail and outside the lead.

He said with the early stages of the event being run inside of standard time his mount was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 REGENCY WIN WIN (K214) K C Leung Jumped awkwardly.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.

Before being allowed to race again, REGENCY WIN WIN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 11 DRAGON SUNRISE (J269) K De Melo On jumping shifted out, made heavy contact with BEAUTY LIVE and became unbalanced.

Horse No 12 ARDEN (J505) A Badel Bumped shortly after the start.

Near the 250 Metres was steadied when crowded between PEARL OF PANG'S (K Teetan) which shifted to the outside of MISTER DAPPER to secure clear running and FORTUNE BOY (Z Purton) which shifted in slightly.

Both K Teetan and Z Purton were advised to exercise more care.

Horse No 14 PEARL OF PANG'S (J447) K Teetan Between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running.

Leaving the 300 Metres was then eased when disappointed for clear running between JOLLY JUMPER and MISTER DAPPER which shifted in.
